Selena Marie Gomez, famously known as Selena Gomez, is an American actress that was born in Grand Prairie, Texas, on July 22, 1992. She is the daughter of Mandy Dawn Teefey, a former stage actress with half Italian descent, and Ricardo Joel Gomez, a Mexican American. Selena Gomez is best known for her act in Disney Channel television series “Wizards of Waverly Place” in which she portrays Alex Russo. After her role in “Wizards of Waverly Place,” she starred in “Another Cinderella Story”, “Princess Protection Program,” and “Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie. “She had also starred a theatrical film titled “Ramona and Beezus.”

Selena Gomez started his career in acting since she was a young girl. When she was seven years old, she portrayed Gianna on “Barney & Friends.” Then, she had minor roles in television film “Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial By Fire,” “Brain Zapped,” and a movie titled “Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over.” Selena Gomez’s talent was discovered by Disney Channel in a USA-wide scouting in 2004. The young actress then appeared as a guest star on an American sitcom “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.” She also had a guest appearance on “Hannah Montana” that later turned into a recurring role from seasons two to three.

“Wizards of Waverly Place,” the Disney Channel series that boost Selena Gomez’s fame, was premiered to an audience of 5.9 million in early 2007. The show was becoming a hit, and many people consider the young actress as the next “Miley Cyrus.” Selena Gomez was flattered by the comparison at that time, and she said: “It’s a little overwhelming, but I think really, it’s a compliment. She’s obviously extremely successful, and I think she’s a wonderful performer … So being compared to her, I was very, very flattered.” As Selena Gomez became older, she started to take more adult roles. In 2009, she became one of the two female leads in “Ramona and Beezus.”

After being pretty successful in the world of acting, Selena Gomez expanded her career into the music industry. She founded “Selena Gomez & the Scene” teen pop band. The teen pop band consist of Selena Gomez on vocals, Joey Clement on bass, Ethan Roberts on guitar, Dane Forrest on keyboards, and Greg Garman on drums. The teen pop band has released two albums, “Kiss & Tell” and “A Year without Rain.” The band has also released “Naturally” and “Who Says,” two RIAA Platinum-certified singles. “Selena Gomez & the Scene” is pretty successful. In the United States, the band has sold over 1,354,000 albums. Selena Gomez has a great talent in music. She has also contributed to the soundtracks of “Wizards of Waverly Place,” “Another Cinderella Story,” “Tinker Bell,” and “Shake It Up.”

On July 2011, Selena Gomez and her band started the “We Own the Night Tour” to promote “When the Sun Goes Down,” their third album. The tour has nearly 30 shows. The first show was in Boca Raton on July 28 2011, and the last show is scheduled to be held in Montreal on October 30 2011. According to box office score data, most of the band’s shows had their tickets sold out. In Clearwater, West Valley City, and Clarkston, the tickets were 100% sold. While in Philadelphia, the tickets were 95% sold.

Selena Gomez had supported many charities. In 2008, she was involved in the “UR Votes Count” campaign and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital “Runway for Life” benefit. Selena Gomez was also the spoke person of “Trick-or-Treat” for UNICEF, a campaign that encouraged children to help other children around the globe by raising money on Halloween. Selena Gomez raised over $700,000 for the charity. In 2009, when Selena Gomez was 17 years old, she became UNICEF’s youngest ambassador ever. She took a week-long travel to Ghana on September 4, 2009 to witness the poor conditions of children there.
